Agios Myronas

Saint Myron is a village in the province Malevizi of Heraklion and the seat of Gorgolainis Municipality with 717 residents and it is situated 18 km far away fron Heraklio city. It is well known for it’s interesting urban setting and exceptional examples of it’s traditional architecture. It is the capital city of Malevizi province and it is one of th finest dried grapes and wine producting villages of Crete. It is built on top of two hills and for this reason the Turks calles Tsatal Kiogiou, ie Dikorfo Village. The people engaged in agriculture and produce raisings and wine. It’s characteristic feature is the clock of school which is visible from across the province of Malevizi. In prominently seat is situated the Cathedral church of Saint Myron, who gave his name to the village. Inside the temple is the tomb of Saint as his remains in a luxurius shrine. To the west and below the temple is where the hermitage became a monk Saint Myron which was converted into a chapel.
